Dr. Vinay Jha is an economist specialising in policy design, mechanism design, behavioural economics, and experimental market design. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA).

Dr. Jha’s research focuses on bureaucratic cadre assignment mechanisms, affirmative action jurisprudence, reforms in public education pedagogy, and the socio-economic dynamics of marginalised urban communities. His work has been published in leading academic journals, including Economic and Political Weekly, and has been supported by competitive research grants such as J-PAL’s Learning for All Initiative. One of his J-PAL-funded projects has had its pre-analysis plan accepted for publication in the Journal of Development Economics.

Dr. Jha has presented his research at several prestigious academic conferences hosted by institutions including the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Delhi, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore).

He is currently an Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Business School and serves as a Visiting Faculty member at the Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP). In addition to teaching core academic courses, he conducts specialised workshops on causal inference and applied quasi-experimental research methods.

Prior to his academic career, Dr. Jha served as an Assistant Commandant (Class I Officer) in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and worked as a consultant with PwC. His professional experience, combined with his academic research, enables him to bring a distinctive blend of rigorous scholarship, practical governance insights, and forward-looking policy expertise to teaching and research.
