Dr. Shailesh Gandhi

BIO

Dr. Shailesh Gandhi is currently a Professor of Practice at Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, where he teaches in the PGDM and PGDM–Business Analytics programmes. He has an accomplished career spanning academia, academic administration, and industry, with over two decades of experience in higher education and extensive leadership experience in the corporate sector.

Dr. Gandhi served as a faculty member in the Finance and Accounting Area at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) from April 2004 until his retirement in September 2021. Prior to joining IIMA, he taught at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) from 2001 to 2004 and the National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), Mumbai, from 1984 to 1986. Before entering academia, he spent 15 years in industry, including eight years in management consulting and seven years in senior finance and accounting leadership roles as General Manager.

He holds a PhD in Finance & Accounts from IIMA and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, graduating as the University Topper and Gold Medallist. During his tenure at IIMA, he taught across the Institute’s flagship programmes, including the Post Graduate Programme (PGP), the Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX), and the Doctoral Programme. His teaching portfolio included Financial Reporting and Analysis, Strategic Cost Management, Management Control Systems, Corporate Finance, and Financial Statement Analysis.

In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, Dr. Gandhi held several senior academic leadership positions at IIMA. He served as Dean (Programmes) from 2016 to 2020, leading key institutional initiatives including EQUIS accreditation, the implementation of SAP S/4HANA ERP, oversight of national and international rankings, mentorship of IIM Nagpur, and the establishment of IIMA’s Dubai campus, where he also served as Director. Earlier, he served as Chairperson of both the PGP and PGPX programmes and was a member of several academic and administrative committees.
