Dr. Venkatesh Panchapagesan is Professor of Finance at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), where he also leads the Real Estate Research Initiative. With over two decades of experience spanning academia and the global financial services industry, he is widely recognised for his expertise in finance, quantitative investing, capital markets, and real estate research.
Prior to joining IIM Bangalore in 2011, Dr. Panchapagesan held senior positions with some of the world’s leading financial institutions. At Bridgewater Associates, the world’s largest hedge fund, he led initiatives to modernise the firm’s trading analytics infrastructure. Earlier, he worked with Goldman Sachs Asset Management in New York, where he oversaw trading research for its quantitative hedge funds. Before entering the financial services industry, he served as Professor of Finance at the Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis, and was also invited to serve as Economist at the NASDAQ Stock Market.
An accomplished researcher and educator, Dr. Panchapagesan has published extensively in leading international academic and practitioner journals. His research interests include financial markets, quantitative finance, corporate finance, and real estate, with a strong focus on applying analytical methods to address industry and policy challenges.
Dr. Panchapagesan holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Southern California, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (equivalent to an MBA) from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Madras. He is also a qualified Chartered Accountant and Cost and Works Accountant, reflecting his strong foundation in finance, accounting, and business management.
