Asha Kaul was a Professor in the Communication Area at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) from 2002 to 2025. She obtained her PhD in Stylistics from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1990. At IIMA, she held several key administrative positions, including Chairperson of the Communication Area, Warden, and Placement Chairperson.
She has been the recipient of numerous awards. She was felicitated with the “Best Professor – Communications” award by the Golden AIM Awards in June 2020, received the citation for the “100 Most Dedicated Professors” in 2019, and was recognised among the “Prof. Indira Parikh 50 Women in Education Leaders” by the World Education Congress in 2018. She was also recognised as one of the 50 Indian management thinkers who made a significant impact on management theory and practice in 2015. She received the A. P. Chowdappa Memorial Award for Excellence in Communication in the Academic Sector for 2014-15.
She is the author of many books, papers, and cases published in peer-reviewed national and international journals. She was recognised as one of the best-selling authors of Prentice Hall of India for her book, Business Communication (2nd edition) (Kaul, A., 2009). Her co-authored book, Demystifying Leadership: Unveiling the Mahabharata Code, was adjudged the Business Book of the Year 2022 by FICCI. Several of her co-authored cases have also received acclaim.
She has served as an Independent Director on the Board of OIL India Ltd. and was the Chairperson of its CSR and N&R Committees. She has also served as an Independent Director on the Boards of HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited and HPCL-Mittal Pipelines Limited. She currently serves on the Board of Supreme Facility Management Ltd. She was a member of the High-Level Committee for the recommendation of institutions and universities for Centre of Excellence status, constituted by the Education Department, Government of Gujarat. She also served as the Honourable President of India’s nominee to the Executive Council of the Central University of Gujarat. She is also a member of the Academic Council of various institutes.
